WORKING WITH COMMUNITY CANTEEN

Dux is a local business that’s interested in contributing to the local community. A few years ago, I was looking for an opportunity to contribute personally and I found Community Canteen. Community Canteen is a volunteer-run organisation that prepares around 800 meals a week to people in need. The meals are nutritious and something that you and I would eat at home. Some of the meals are provided directly to people who are homeless. Other meals are provided to partner organisations who distribute the meals to clients including women and children in temporary accommodation as a result of domestic violence.

I love contributing to the creation of the menu (especially when the donated food is weird and wonderful) and being involved in directly cooking meals. I’ve since roped in some Dux employees, who are also volunteering in both menu planning and cooking.

If you’re looking for an opportunity to give back to the community, I highly recommend Community Canteen. It’s grass roots, all donations are used to benefit clients and the leaders and volunteers and genuinely great people.
